The R-rated comedy starring the animated teddy bear Ted and Mark Wahlberg managed to rake in $54.1 million in its big debut.
The film, which also stars Mila Kunis, was very impressive and well-received by fans across the U.S.
This marked the third highest debut ever for an R-rated comedy behind only The Hangover Part II ($85.9 million) and Sex and the City ($57 million).
According to reports, it appears that the massive success of Ted already has fans clamoring for a sequel.
The creator Seth MacFarlane, known for the hit animated series Family Guy, may be up for the challenge.
Ted is an amazingly original comedy which is expected to pick up even more steam as it heads into its second week in theaters.
The film opened in 3,239 theaters in total during its debut weekend. We will have to wait and see if the film can hold up as big releases are on the way in the form of Spider-Man, The Dark Knight Rises, and more.
