Captain Jack Sparrow returns to kick-start what is believed to be the second half of what will end up being a six-movie franchise for Disney with Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.  The latest installment in the pirate franchise has now come home on an impressive combo release.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides follows Captain Jack Sparrow on yet another remarkable journey, this time surrounding an old foe in Captain Barbossa, as well as some new faces including the pirate Blackbeard, as well as his daughter Angelica (played by Penelope Cruz).

The journey’s main focus is finding the fountain of youth, and acquiring what is necessary to make it work in favor of whoever lands it first.

The latest Jack Sparrow adventure is arguably the best since the original film in the franchise.  Director Rob Marshall has done a great job of putting his own twist on the action and the story delivery, making for a great action-adventure.

The audio/video quality here is about as perfect as you are going to get on Blu-ray, with a 1080p 2.40:1 aspect ratio, packed with a DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 track to round out the experience.

Just as with prior Pirates Blu-ray releases, the audio and video will put your home theater to work, as the action sequences come across tremendous, especially the work done on the high seas.

The 3D Blu-ray track is impressive in its own right, adding some nice depth when necessary to really improve the viewing experience.  If you have the equipment necessary, the 3D version of the film is definitely the best way to experience the latest Pirates adventure.  Some of the action sequences make great use of 3D depth to create a great viewing environment.

The release is packed with value as you get the 3D Blu-ray version of the film, as well as other versions including Blu-ray, DVD, as well as a digital copy.

Extras are also quite plentiful with a great audio commentary from director Rob Marshall and producer John DeLuca.  The Disney Second Screen is included as well so that you can use your iPad or computer to utilize and experience interactive extras while the movie is playing, very cool indeed and works quite well.

Other extras include deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes featurettes, as well as some fun bloopers.

Overall, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides has received a great 5-disc combo release which is sure to please any fan of Captain Jack Sparrow.  This one is full of buried treasure, and is packs plenty of value.

Final Score: 9 out of 10 Chatters
