It is being reported that Punjab governor Salman Taseer has been gunned down in the Pakistani capital Islamabad. He was fatally shot by a member of his own actual security detail in a popular shopping district of the city as he was getting out of his car.
The name of his alleged assassin has not been released but the man was immediately taken into custody by police. Mr Taseer was said to be one of Pakistan’s most important political figures and his sudden death will result in further instability in a country already skating on thin ice.
