A serious accident at a Sugarloaf USA ski resort has sent at least six people to hospital with non-lifethreatening injuries. Five chairs which were part of the skilift fell to the ground when their cable was derailed, sending them and their occupants falling up to 30 feet to the ground below.
At the time of the accident, approximately 220 people were on the lift, and those who were not in the chairs that fell, were left hanging in mid-air. Rescue crews were dispatched with ropes and harnesses to rescue the stranded skiers from the broken down lift. “All injured guests have been treated and are being transported to area hospitals,” a press release issued by the resort’s management said. “At this point none of the injuries are believed to be life threatening.”
