Despite cancer diagnosis Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger will travel with the team
Despite just being diagnosed with cancer Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger says he will be up in the press box this Sunday. Jeff Fisher broke the news to the team during practice on Wednesday but did not elaborate as to the type of cancer that Mike has been diagnosed with. Mike was feeling very sick for quite some time and upon medical tests being performed he received the horrible news.
The team is travelling to Houston this weekend to tangle with the Texans, in a game that both teams desperately need to keep their playoff chances alive. “Obviously he feels good enough to finish up this week and to call the game. We’re very, very excited for that, to have him back and to keep him involved,” Coach Jeff Fisher said. “He understands now what’s ahead. He’s got a tremendous fight ahead of him. But at least he knows what to prepare for and when to prepare for it.”
Mike will return to Nashville on Monday to begin chemotherapy treatments. He chose to postpone starting treatment so he could travel with the team to do his job this weekend. He will be given the task of choosing the offensive plays for the Titans, and will have a lot more than the game on his mind come Sunday. “It shows his dedication, his strength, his endurance, just his fight,” receiver Justin Gage said. “Most of all it shows that he really loves us. Just to have him out there is so much of a motivator to us as players, and people in general. Just to see him fighting and what he is going through. It is amazing, really.”
