A new ruling has been passed that will see foods that you buy at the grocery store come with the country of-origin printed on their labels.
This new rule will cost retailers a lot of extra money, but it will help the consumer to know where the food they are buying originated from.
The new ruling has been in the works for some time now, and the USDA will be spending the next 6 months, educating companies on the fine print that needs to be included on labels.
The ruling goes into effect today but does not apply to foods packaged prior to today’s date.
Some foods are obviously exempt from the ruling, including mixed veggies, and various processed foods including processed meat to nuts.
Many are in favor of this changing of food labels, due to the fact that many imported food products, those from China for example have been cause of numerous deaths and forms of illness due to them being contaminated.
