Josh Beckett will not start until game three of the American League first round playoff series between the Boston Red Sox and the Los Angeles Angels.

The Boston hurler injured his oblique during a throwing session in the bullpen, meaning that game one will be started by Jon Lester, who has had a great year for the team.

He will be followed up in game 2 by Japanese sensation Daisuke Matsuzaka, with Beckett slated for game three to be played back in Boston.

If a fourth game in the series is required, it would also be played in Boston, with Lester the probable starter.

Last year, Beckett went a sizzling 4-0 in the post season, leading his Sox to the World Series tital.

Game one between Boston and Los Angeles goes on Wednesday night in Calif.
