Skin cancer experts have stated that no tan is safe for humans, even if it is attained from a tanning bed.
According to scientists from the UK and the US, skin cancer begins from too much exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays, which are given off by both the sun, and sun beds.
Many people opt for tanning beds as they believe them to be a safe alternative to outdoor tanning, a fact that the scientists insist is untrue.
The study is published in the October issue of Pigment Cell & Melanoma Research. It showed that too much sun exposure, whether it be from a tanning bed or outdoors damages DNA in the skin putting people at risk of cancer.
