The late Heath Ledger has received special recognition for his role in the movie The Dark Knight, in which he plays the Joker.

Thursday saw a press screening for the new “Batman Begins” sequel, with Ledger playing the role of Joker to perfection.

At the end of the movie during the credits, a fairwell note appears on screen in tribute to the Australian born actor.

To many who are Batman fans and were lucky enough to see the preview, Nicholson’s original Batman arch rival is played far differently by Ledger, who brings an extra sense of mennace to the role not previously seen.

Before The Dark Knight, Ledger was best known for his amazing work in Brokeback Mountain.

Ledger died as the result of an accidental drug overdose back in January of this year.

Also remembered in the closing credits is Special Effects Expert Conway Wickliffe, who was killed while performing a stunt.

The special tribute reads: “In memory of our friends Heath Ledger and Conway Wickliffe.”
