It is being reported that AT&T are preparing to launch a new MediaFlo Mobile TV service this coming May.
AT&T is the largest mobile operator in the United States and the move to incorperate the mobile media service will surely boost the company’s profit as the push is on for mobile media to hit the market as a way of adding another option for cell phone users.
AT&T said it would offer MediaFlo to users of the Vu phone from LG electronics Inc and the Access from Samsung Electronics Co Ltd. The price of the service was not announced, but you can bet it will not be cheap.
The service utilizes Qualcomm’s MediaFlo technology, which has already been used by Verizon Wireless’ V Cast Mobile TV and other service providers internationally.
“AT&T Mobile TV is a powerful new mobile entertainment offering, which will give our customers a formidable lineup of sports, news, and prime-time shows,” said Mark Collins, VP of consumer data for AT&T’s wireless unit, in a statement.
Some programming that will be part of the mobile service include those from CBS Mobile, Comedy Central, ESPN Mobile TV, Fox Mobile, MTV, NBC 2GO, NBC News2GO, and Nickelodeon.
