The much anticipated opening start for pitcher Hiroki Kuroda was a short one but was very effective.

The 33 year old Dodgers pitcher Kuroda, who originates from Japan was impressive in the spring training start, facing the minimum number of batters over 2 innings of work, firing 21 pitches at the Atlanta Braves.

“I’m relieved,” said Kuroda, who didn’t get a decision in the Dodgers’ 10-3 loss at Champion Stadium.

Kuroda who brings a fastball in the low to mid 90′s and a great 2-seamer, said he was nervous taking the mound, but not as nervous as he was when he participated in the team’s “Dodgers Idol” competition.

The Dodgers must’ve liked what they originally saw in Kuroda, signing him to a 3 year 35.5 million dollar contract.
