Results of a new study find that administering epsom salts to mothers just before they deliver very premature babies can halve the baby’s risk of being born with Cerebral Palsy.
Cerebral Palsy, otherwise known as CP occurs when there is damage afflicted to the part of the brain that is responsible for muscle control and coordination and is very common in premature babies.
epsom salts are currently given to pregnant women who are hypertensive or are in premature labor.
Dr. John Thorp of the University of North Carolina states that doctors should consider giving this compound to mothers just before they give birth to extremely premature babies. He is not sure how they work, but he knows that they do somehow.
“It’s cheap. It’s readily available. It doesn’t harm anybody. I think it will be widely adopted,” he said.
