The FDA have approved a new drug manufactured by Schwarz Pharma to treat people diagnosed with overactive bladders.
The drug, Toviaz is approved for use only by adults, and is distributed by Pfizer of New York.
Toviaz works by relaxing the tissue located in and around the bladder, resulting in a decrease in the frequency to feel the need to urinate.
According to the FDA the only known side effects associated with the drug were dry mouth and constipation.
“Patients who suffer from overactive bladder face quality of life issues that can hamper their ability to enjoy life to its fullest,” said George Benson, M.D., deputy director, Division of Reproductive and Urologic Products at the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research. “This new drug will provide an additional treatment option to help them manage problems with an overactive bladder.”
