A resident of Massachusetts is the first to die after being diagnosed with Eastern equine encephalitis.
The man, 73 years of age contracted EEE back in September and began exhibiting symptoms while on Vacation in Maine.
Due to the man traveling around a bit within the last few months, health officials are unsure where he contracted the virus.
He had spent time in Massachusetts, Maine and New Hampshire leading up to his diagnosis.
After he was diagnosed, he spent the last weeks of his life in hospital.
EEE is transmitted by mosquitoes, and is very rare in humans.
