The CDC is stating that the cervical cancer vaccine Gardasil, which is manufactured by Merck is safe for girls to take.
The vaccine has been proven to be very effective at reducing the risk of a woman developing cervical cancer, as it blocks the transmission of many different types of HPVs associated with the disease.
Gardasil has come under some heat due to the fact that for it to be effective, it must be given to girls before they enter into sexual maturity.
The vaccine is approved for use in girls between 9 and 25 years of age, and the FDA recently denied an application from Merck to expand the approval age range to women up to 44.
According to theCDC the vaccine is not responsible for a number of major health problems including blood clots and even death.
The agency performed a 2 year study of the drug, analyzing more than 370,000 doses to reach the conclusion that the drug is safe.
“There were no associations found that suggested an elevated risk,” said John Iskander, acting director for the Immunization Safety Office, in an interview.
