Washington (ChatterShmatter) - A new report released in the US finds that the rate of suicide in the country is increasing.

The report finds that the suicide rate is increasing largely in part to middle aged females between 40 and 64 years of age who are killing themselves at an ever increasing rate compared to other demographics.

The study looked at suicide data from 1999 to 2005, and found that overall, the suicide rate rose by 0.7 percent, but increased for the middle aged white female demographic by more than 3.5 percent.

Firearms, which have been the constant leading method of suicide, still remained relatively high when it came to the method of choice, but hanging or suffocation were found to be on the increase.

“The results underscore a change in the epidemiology of suicide, with middle-aged whites emerging as a new high-risk group,” said study co-author Susan P. Baker, a professor with the Bloomberg School’s Center for Injury Research and Policy, in a news release.

“Historically, suicide prevention programs have focused on groups considered to be at highest risk — teens and young adults of both genders as well as elderly white men,” she continued. “This research tells us we need to refocus our resources to develop prevention programs for men and women in their middle years.”

American society has turned its back on middle-aged white females who are being discarded at an alarming rate, along with her children, when their emotionally menopausal husbands succumb to the wiles of immoral, self-absorbed, and usually younger women. Any person who includes this type of couple in polite society exacerbates the problem. Married women, especially, should think twice before accepting or socializing with women who destroy families because social acceptance makes it easier for their husbands to leave when they hit that empirically proven psychological state of despair most men suffer, in varying degrees, at midlife. One must choose whether they want to be part of the problem or part of the solution. I am sure if the victimized wife (or children) had turned her anger on the interloper instead of herself, society might have taken notice sooner, certainly the courts would have. As it stands now, there is no legal protection for a mother and her children whose emotional and physical lives are frequently destroyed as a consequence of this male weakness and female greed. I fear this statistic will continue to increase if society and/or the legal system fail to respond appropriately. “Being in love” as an excuse is a cliche and totally fails to take into consideration the love a wife and children have for their husband and father.
If a man, especially a father, is unhappy in his marriage, he should tell his wife so they can get counseling. If that fails, at least the wife and children will not have been blindsided. Only a coward needs a replacement ready before deserting, and there are numerous replacements, devoid of a conscience, lurking about. This may be an alarming statistic, but it is not a surprising one.

Hormones relating to pre-menopause and menopause, along with stress, can wreak havoc with a woman.

The fight or flight hormone, cortisol, during times of stress, increases and affects progesterone levels, which typically are calming.

Fifty years ago, women were given tranquilizers to calm them. Not common, today.

Women, especially working women, are perhaps more emotionally stressed today than ever.

That, along with the added responsibilities of caring for a husband, home, and family eventually catches up with her.

Bottom line, hormonal imbalances and stress management has got to be addressed.
