Events Planned Across America For Breast Cancer Awareness Month
October 10th, 2008 | by admin |
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time for us to remember those who have lost their lives to the disease, and to celebrate those who have managed to overcome it.
Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer related death in women in the U.S. only trailing lung cancer for the top position.
Each year in America more than 500,000 new breast cancer cases are reported, despite ongoing research that is being conducted in an attempt to find a cure.
Currently a fullproof cure is not available but many new drugs have recently come on the market to help combat the disease.
There are many things women can do as individuals to reduce their risk of developing breast cancer, ranging from exercising on a regular basis, watching their weight, performing regular breast exams, and limiting their alcohol consumption.
Throughout October, counties in states across the US will be promoting breast cancer awareness, so that all women can learn about breast cancer and what they can do to reduce their own risk of developing the disease.
