A new postal stamp has been launched in Antigonish, Nova Scotia to help raise funds and awareness of mental illness and the devistating effect it can have on patients.
The stamp costs 10 cents more than would a traditional Canadian stamp, and according to Canada Post, they hope to raise more than 1 million dollars for mental health initiatives.
The stamp was launched on Monday in conjunction with Mental Health Awareness Week, which is a time for people to open themselves up for education into mental health issues, and to donate, so that vital mental health research can continue to be undertaken in a continued attempt to understand the brain.
In the US, a major mental health bill was just passed that requires insurance companies to treat patients with mental health issues the same as they would treat those with physical health issues.
In times past, insurance companies have not paid the same for treating mental health patients as they have for physical medical conditions, a fact that has changed for good now with the passing of the new law.
