A Central Florida high school student has died from MRSA bacteria, prompting health officials to close the school down temporarily while the investigate.

The school in question is Liberty High School in Kissimmee. Alonzo Smith, 18 died at a hospital on Monday from his infection.

Letters have been sent home to parents of children attending the school, along with an MRSA FAQ sheet.

Currently it is not known if the student contracted the virus while in school, or if he was exposed to it outside of school property.

MRSAs are very dangerous due to the fact that they have become resistent to many types of drugs that are used to combat them.

The infection is carried on a person’s skin or inside their nose, but when it enters into the bloodstream it can become very dangerous.
