California Will Vote On Same Sex Marriage
September 29th, 2008 | by admin |
California is preparing to vote on whether or not same sex marriages should be allowed to be carried out in the state in a proposition 8 ballot that if passed, would see the constitution changed so that only marriage between a man and a woman would be recognized.
The “California Marriage Protection Act” aims at preserving marriage between a man and a woman as the only recognized form of marriage, and if passed this would be the case in California.
This touchy subject is being voted on due to a decision back on May 15 of 08 by the California Supreme Court to overturn a previous ruling that denied same sex couples from marrying in the state of Calif.
Since the Supreme Court overturned the ruling, thousands of gay couples have been rushing to the alter to tie the knot, and many more marriage licenses have been applied for.
“The nation will be watching to see what happens with this, second only to the presidential campaign,” predicted Tim Wildmon, president of the Mississippi-based American Family Association.
“There is a sense that this is a potential tipping-point election,” said Jon Matsusaka, president of the Initiative and Referendum Institute at the University of Southern California. “If voters here accept the concept of same-sex marriage, that will have an effect on the way people think across the country.”

In Europe most of the modern countries already have same sex marriage, the former east block countries are considered backward and still very homophobic. Whatever the vote in Cal. it’ll only show how progressive/backward Californians are.

While this news is disturbing to those of us that support the amendment it is certainly typical of the apathy and lack of courage that is so deeply rooted into today’s society.
Our courage to stand up for what is right has been eroded by political correctness and fears that as a people we might be accused of being backward or thought of as intolerant and even branded bigots. Over the years, we have stood by and allowed the Courts and legislatures to pass laws that are contributing to the decay of the culture established by our Forefathers and is creating a society of self-indulgent individuals that care nothing for the laws of decency and the freedoms our Country truly represents. Amazingly, the proponents of this new society have accomplished this by somehow perverting the meaning of these freedoms to include the acceptance of unnatural and deviant behavior and they have done it all in the name of the Constitution of the United States. One might ask how could this have happened? Certainly, nothing could be wrong with protecting the rights of a fellow Human Being, could it? My Father used to tell me that; “People have the freedom to swing their arm all day long. But, their freedom ends where my nose begins.”
Now we see the consequences of our folly as a people. This is a perfect example of “giving an inch and losing a mile”. Moreover, this situation will become even worse if we do not put a stop to it as citizens. The time has come to stand up and be counted; we must stop this nonsense before it gets so far out of control that we lose what decency we have left as a society.

I can see the comment above by Concerned… How can you make statements like “Deviant Behaviors” and not call yourself a bigot. It’s very easy to pass judgments on others be mindful as to how your actions affect YOU and only YOU. People have the right to choose - GAYs did not choose to be gay; if it were a choice, How would choose to put up with ignorance and bigotry like the statement you make?
If Gays want to get married, well LET THEM so that they can experience how the rest of us live :o)
Good luck everyone, for me I AM VOTING IN FAVOR so that all of you can experience the joy and pain that marriage can be.

Everyone deserves the chance to be treated as fairly as everyone else in this country. The only way one can visualize this, would be to imagine your son or daughter being gay, have gay friends, or to be gay yourself, to understand how VERY important it is to not necessarily UNDERSTAND why 2 members of the same sex would like to get married, but to remember how only FAIR it is to give them that right, and I emphasize “right”.. Upon “allowing” (which seems so very belittling itself!!) 2 people who are in love to join in on the benefits of marriage, is only helping everyone to love without judging. Although it seems uncanny to have to beg for the principals as a heterosexual couple, we need to start somewhere. It also seems so extremely pathetic to have to beg for something that is taken for granted in the first place by the people that don’t have to fight for it, and considering the Divorce rate in this country, I hardly believe that there is a sanctity to marriage for this reason. -ONE LOVE

…but would like to add that Gay people getting married would only benefit EVERYONE in this country. this is not some way for Gay people to take something away, we DESERVE IT!! Gay people are deprived to visit loved ones in the hospital beds while their partner may be dying, gay people in most fields are deprived of health benefits, insurance, tax breaks, and the list goes on and one. Gay people would help better our already struggling economy by creating and securing jobs(any job that would be in the production of a gay marriage). Gay people would be able to adopt as couple, thus creating loving homes for children (and did I mention that gay people have ALOT of disposable income?) the list goes on…

Benefits of gay marriage: Job security(any job that would participate in the production of marriage like florists, bridal-formal wear shops, bakeries, jewelers, wedding planners), economy, adoption. Did you hear that our country is in a financial crisis? what is one of your children were gay? would you encourage them to live a life in which is not treated fairly, or would you hope and wish them the best in their endeavor? Why not encourage everyone to love everyone! Sure I think that everyone should be judged on an individual basis, but to not let a group of wonderful people get married is to be very sad in your outlook on love and happiness…sad…very sad!!Also gay couple have an abundance of disposable income to contribute to charities! what about adoption? Gays would benefit the overpopulation in the world by adopting children. I could go on and on..talk to me!!

…sorry for repeating a couple of my points, I thought my second comment did not go through. I want EVERYONE who is a good person to love and be loved with the same respect…RESPECT!!

Prop 8 is NO less bigoted than the Jim Crow Laws. It is 100% Un-American and Un-Constitutional. I am sure there was a ton of bogus propaganda when the racist Jim Crow laws were passed and that is the same tactic that the religious right wing is trying to do with Prop 8. This is NOT a gay issue, it is an issue of treating every American equally regardless of their race, ethnicity or sexual orientation. Gay people are born gay, scientific evidence shows that it is not a choice, therefore the rest of us 90% should just accept them just as we accept people of different colors and different religions and stop trying to change the California Constitution.

Actually the union of people should only be about 3 things.
1) A token of love
2) Financial Benefit
3) Children/Offspring’s future
I believe “official” unions of any kind, have their roots in religion, and as I firmly believe in separation of church and state, I say that marriage should no longer be involved with government or state in any fashion. If Gov wants to help people who are raising children then they can do so by offering discounts on all their stupid fees and taxes.
If for financial benefit, it should be looked at as an insurnace contract between two people and nothing more. End of line.
