FDA Approves Amgen Drug For Controling Chronic Bleeding
August 23rd, 2008 | by admin |The FDA ( Food and Drug Administration) have approved amgen’s Nplate drug for patients diagnosed with a rare blood clotting disorder

FDA officials have confirmed that they have given approval to Amgen Inc for their new drug to treat patients diagnosed with immune thrombocytopenic purpura, which is a condition characterized by chronic bleading.
The drug is called Nplate, and is given once a week via injection.
The bleeding disorder results from the body’s immune system attacking platelets in the blood, making patients more vulnerable to bruising and bleeding.
In a 6-month clinical trial, patients given Nplate had significantly higher platelet counts in their blood than did patients not given the injection.
It is estimated that in the US there are more than 140000 Americans living with this blood condition, and in some cases can be fatal due to severe bleeding.
