FDA Will Investigate Vytorin Cancer Link

Washington - The FDA has announced that they will be launching an investigation into the possibility of a link between the cholesterol-lowering drug Vytorin and cancer.
Currently two studies being conducted show no link between cancer and the drug, but one previously completed study did find a link.
Vytorin is the latest blockbuster drug when it comes to lowering levels of bad cholesterol, and is a combination of Merck’s Zocor and Schering-Plough’s Zetia.
Both companies defend the drug, stating that it works for its approved use, lowering levels of LDL cholesterol in people taking it.
Despite their pending investigation into the statin, the FDA states that people currently taking the drug should not stop taking it.
The FDA stated that it will take up to nine months for their full investigation to be complete.
