NBC’s Nashville Star contest has been won by a mother of 5 from the state of Texas named Melissa Lawson.
She beat out a fellow Texan Gabe Garcia who came in a close second, and Iowa native Shawn Mayer for third.
So what exactly does she win? How about a recording contract with Warner Bros, a brand spanking new Toyota Tundra, and her new single played on every country radio station known to man.
She also won the honor to sing her single, which was produced by John Rich, one half of Big and Rich, at the summer Olympics on August 12th.
Throughout the season, Lawson has managed to drop quite a lot of weight, managing to lose 45lbs since the show began.

Yeah. Because losing weight is the most important thing to mention here. It doesn’t change her voice. If she was a man, would you have mentioned the weight?
Congratulation Melissa Lawson of Arlington, TX, from Marie Lawton of Arlington, TX.
Great singer, great voice, great great attitude. God bless!
You cant tell me that the way a person looks does not have an impact of sourts on their star power
Honestly get real
Congratulations, Melissa on a win long overdue. You other people get real, she’s a WINNER and a very HEALTHY WINNER.
Congratulations, Melissa, not only on your win, but on your weight loss, as well. To accomplish both things at the same time is truly a testament to your spirit and determination. I’m looking forward to buying your first CD.
