The FDA has approved a new injectable drug called Cleviprex to treat people with high blood pressure.

This is the first drug to be approved for acute hypertention in the last decade, and has done amazing things for the company’s stock prices.

Cleviprex is a drug that is given intravenously, and is a last resort for patients with very hard to manage blood pressure who do not respond to traditional oral drugs.

The drug is manufactured by Medicines Co and according to a company spokesman it will be available for purchase before the end of 2008.

“We’re very pleased to have the opportunity to set what we think will be a new standard of a care,” said Medicine’s Co. CEO John Kelley in an interview.

Shares of Medicines Co. have risen 23 cents since the news of the drug approval was made public.
