Bone Density Can Increase Breast Cancer Risk

Researchers from Arizona state that a woman’s bone density can determine her risk of developing breast cancer.
Bone mineral density, is the number associated with the amount of minerals found in our bones, and according to researchers who analyzed postmenopausal women, those with a higher number are at increased breast cancer risk.
In total more than 9 thousand women took part in the study which lasted more than 8 years.
The researchers found that this risk was evident despite the use of other factors such as family history and a woman’s environment when it came to the likelyhood of the onset of the disease.
They state that women with higher levels of bone density are also at increased likelyhood of being overweight or obese, factors that have also been proven to increase breast cancer risk.
The study is to be published in the September issue of the journal Cancer.
