Woman Charged After Posing As Doctor And Performing Abortions

A woman from California has been charged with posing as a doctor and performing abortions.
The woman, 48 year old Bertha Pinedo Bugarin, even had her own clinic in San diego County, and charged up to 500 dollars per abortion.
She was arrested after a year long investigation and charged with 10 felony counts, including performing medical procedures without a license and grand theft.
She performed numerous abortions, some of which resulting in serious complications that put the lives of patients at great risk.
So far, 9 women have come forward and identified her as the one who performed medical procedures on them.
According to prosecutors, she operated up to 6 clinics at one time, advertising her services on Spanish television.
“This defendant preyed on women in the Hispanic community,” district attorney Bonnie M. Dumanis said in a statement. “By passing herself as a doctor, she
put these women’s lives in serious danger.”
If she is found convicted she could spend up to 9 years in jail.
She is being held on 500,000 dollars bail.
