Millions Raised At Breast Cancer Annual Event

The annual Race For The Cure for breast cancer held in St. Louis yesterday attracted more than 64,000 people.
This is the 10th year that the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation has put on the event, as a way of bringing people together to celebrate the lives of those who have lost their battle with cancer, and to support those who have beat it.
The foundation was founded back in 1982 by Nancy Brinker in memory of her sister who died from the disease.
The actual event is a 5 KM walk or run with people receiving pledges to complete the distance.
People took part in a parade as well as the run, wearing signs on their backs to identify those who they were honoring by participating.
This year, it is estimated that the event raised more than 3 million dollars.
On a national scale, breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer related death in the US, only trailing lung cancer.
