Results have been released from an AOL Television poll that show that the most popular American Idol contestant to date is country singer Carrie Underwood.
The poll was conducted from May 9 to the 16 and received more than 1 million votes.
Carrie Underwood was the winner back in 2005 and since winning the show has gone on to stardom in the country music world, winning a Grammy, American Music, Billboard and Country Music Association awards.
The poll released today finds that this seasons most over rated contestant on the show is none other than Jason Castro, who was recently voted off the show.
The poll finds the remaining contestants, David Archuleta, 17, and David Cook, 25, neck and neck when it comes to who fans think will win this years show.
35 percent of fans thought that David Archuleta’s version of John Lennon’s “Imagine” was the overall best performance this year, a number that was tied by Cooks version of Michael Jackson’s hit “Billie Jean.”
I loved Carrie Underwood and was glad to see that she was named the most popular American Idol. I don’t believe that Jason Castro was that overrated. I definitely think it will be a close race between David Archuleta and David Cook.
AOL polls aren’t valid. They’re too vulnerable to spamming. When that poll first opened, the two Davids were neck and neck for “Most over-rated”. And then their fans found the poll. End of story.
Carrie Underwood was just in Casper Wyoming and she was rude and gave a horrible performance. After leaving the concert we have not heard one good comment about her. Josh Turner on the other hand was fantastic. We all could have listened to him all night.
