Computer giant Microsoft has begun a new beta phase of their project Albany, which is their version of a subscription based service that provides clients with all the software that it is necessary to perform any computer related task.

According to Microsoft Product Manager Bryson Gordon, the all-in-one service pack contains all the programs that are most wanted by consumers, meaning that this is one of the first service packs to be released containing items asked for by consumers.

The company hopes to launch the full version of their “Albany.” project by as early as the end of this year.

Subscribers will receive Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007, with the latest versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote, Windows Live OneCare, Windows Live Mail, Messenger and Photo Gallery. This may not sound like anything new, as the majority of these programs are available free of charge.

“the overwhelming response was that they primarily want productivity and security software,” added Gordon.

One advantage that Albany” does have is that it is perfect for families with more than 1 computer.

“We’re breaking new ground by delivering Microsoft Office in combination with security and communication tools, plus ensuring our customers are on the cutting edge with the very latest versions. We found from our research that when you bring these categories together and keep them automatically updated, a subscription model makes a lot of sense,” Gordon concluded.
