It is being reported that 22 year old singer Lily Allen has suffered a miscarriage.
This is a very unfortunate event, as it would have been the first child for her and boyfriend Ed Simons, who is one-half of the Chemical Brothers.
A report in British tabloid The Sun initially reported the news on Thursday, saying the 22-year-old singer and her boyfriend of four months were in a “state of shock.” Allen’s U.S. representative had no comment when reached by MTV News.
Later in the day, Perez Hilton posted on his Web site a statement from a rep for the singer. “We can confirm that Lily Allen has suffered a miscarriage,” Allen’s representative said, according to PerezHilton.com. “She and her partner Ed Simons will be making no further comment and we ask that their privacy be respected during this difficult time.”
Allen, 22, had just returned to London after a holiday in the Maldives with Simons, 37, when she suffered the miscarriage. The couple are reportedly devastated.
Fans left comforting messages on the singers MySpace page:
“I’m really sorry for your loss, my thoughts are with you,” posted Connie.
“My deepest sympathy Lily. I’m really sorry to hear the bad news, hope you pick yourself up again soon,” wrote Mike.
Allen is due to release her second album and front a new BBC TV chat show this year.
